Implementing a structured and sustainable family farming project would allow growers to increase productivity, group together to form economies of scale, and be inserted into agribusiness supply chains. It will lead to raised incomes, lower food prices, increased food availability and food security, increased employment opportunities for unskilled and skilled labour of both genders, increased entrepreneurial activities, growth in the rural services sector, and the emergence of agro-processing industries. Moreover, it would provide smallholder farmers and SMEs that supply agricultural products with support in accessing the growing agricultural supply chains of lead firms in Mozambique.
Farming empowerment in ZTC will seek to implement the following:
• Access to inputs (appropriate seeds, tools)
• Shared costs (transport, personnel)
• Market training (quality standards, supply/demand, access to “live” prices, access to off-takers and contract framing)
• Financial management (bank accounts for farmers/mobile banking, access to credit)
• Legalization (farming association/cooperative, fiscal incentives/tax breaks, access to aid)
Zambezi Tambara Veterinary Foundation will be working with several universities. This Foundation will have the resources to provide livestock in the area with prevention vaccines, dipping, and blood sampling to monitor the levels of corridor diseases and other infections.
