Figure 34: A map showing the relative location of MUZ

Following the 2018 approval by the Conselho de Ministros, a 35,9% multiple use zone was stipulated within Coutada 7 (MUZ). This zone was created in order to exercise economic commercial activity that would integrate the communities into the project. This block will need to be assessed, surveyed the settlements checked and zoned in order to come up with a master plan once operations on other blocks have begun.
The intention for the MUZ is to implement agriculture, livestock and industrialization projects that integrate the communities’ production into the economic model of Coutada 07. These projects will sell to private actors in the ZTWC and will become the largest source of job creation within the region. An integrated strategy to unleash economic development and address food insecurity in Tambara- Chemba will be developed, presented and agreed upon with project stakeholders.
In this Multi-Use Zone, the potential for high scale farming could include the following productions:-

  • • Forestry production (tree nurseries)

  • • Fruit plantations

  • • Rice, maize, beans and sunflower farming

  • • Banana plantations

  • • Fodder crops farming (Lucerne, Russian grass, rye grass, banner grass and Medicago sativa)

  • • Beef cattle production

  • • Boer and Kalahari red goat production

  • • Aquaculture

The above are just an indication, the actual production will be determined by the outcomes of the feasibility study to be carried out in the MUZ.
